Jared Harris ("Mad Men," "Fringe"), who will next be seen playing Professor Moriarty in "Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows", has been cast as Ulysses S. Grant in Steven Spielberg's historical drama "Lincoln" at DreamWorks reports Variety.
Based on Doris Kearns Goodwin's "Team of Rivals", the story will focus on the political collision of Abraham Lincoln (Daniel Day-Lewis) and the powerful men of his cabinet on the road to abolition and the end of the Civil War.
Grant was the Commanding General of the United States Army from 1864-1865 and a few years after Lincoln's death was elected U.S. President.
Tony Kushner penned the screenplay while Kathleen Kennedy and Spielberg are producing. Sally Field, Tommy Lee Jones, Jackie Earle Haley, James Spader, John Hawkes, David Strathaim and Joseph Gordon-Levitt also star.
