Lionsgate Acquires Summit: ‘Twilight’ & ‘Hunger Games’ Now Under One Roof

Late in 2011 we brought you news that two of the smaller studios, Lionsgate and Summit Entertainment, were considering merging. As of today, that merger is officially a reality, with Lionsgate having acquired Summit for a combined sum of $412.5 million.
If you are not one of those TV/movie fans who keeps their eye on the business end of the biz: This basically means that young adult movie franchises The Twilight Saga (owned by Summit) and The Hunger Games (owned by Lionsgate) are now sharing the same roof over their heads, alongside Mad Men‘s Don Draper.

CW Orders ‘Green Arrow’ Pilot; No ‘Smallville’ Connection

After one year without Smallville on the air, The CW is once again returning to its superhero roots with a pilot order for Arrow. Based on DC Comics legend Green Arrow, the series will be headed up by Greg Berlanti and Marc Guggenheim, who wrote last year’s Green Lantern film starring Ryan Reynolds. Take that how you will.
Joining Berlanti and Guggenheim as an executive producer and writer on the tentatively titled Green Arrow series (perhaps to take the sting out of being associated with one of last year’s most disappointing films) will be Andrew Kreisberg, who has worked on Boston Legal, Fringe and Warehouse 13, and penned several Green Arrow and Batman comic books. Kreisberg, Berlanti and Guggenheim previously worked together on ABC’s short-lived Eli Stone in 2008.

A-Team and Narc director Joe Carnahan is bringing his gritty filmmaking style into the wild for The Grey, a man vs. nature survivalist tale starring Liam Neeson as a roughneck oil driller who crash lands in the Alaskan tundra with his team, only to find themselves facing the threat of a savage pack of wolves in addition to the harsh conditions of the frozen environment.
Liam Neeson has become a bankable leading man thanks to action movies like Taken and Unknown, so there are a fair number of moviegoers who are understandably excited for this flick. Those same moviegoers will be excited to learn that Open Road Studios is holding advanced screenings of The Grey across the country – and we have the information on how YOU can attend one!
