The inherent irony of certain moviegoers’ responses to early footage shown from Disney’s John Carter adaptation – wherein they dismiss the film’s thematic elements and aesthetic as variations on those featured in the Star Wars franchise (itself, a direct descendant of Edgar Rice Burrough’s John Carter source material) – has not been lost on readers well-versed in the area of classic science-fiction literature.

Today, we have a new John Carter featurette that includes interviews with the film’s cast and production crew – including, the film’s Oscar-winning co-writer/director Andrew Stanton (Finding Nemo) and second unit director/co-writer Mark Andrews (Star Wars: Clone Wars) – actually going into detail about the highly influential and trend-setting nature of Burrough’s original Carter books.

John Carter is based primarily on the Burrough’s novel, “A Princess of Mars”, and chronicles the adventures of its namesake ...

Transformers 4 not a reboot

Ever since Transformers: Dark of the Moon made a billion dollars at the worldwide box office, it’s been a no-brainer that Paramount would be returning to the well for Transformers 4. However, beyond the knowledge that Transformers 4 was coming, everything else has been rumor, including whether or not Michael Bay would be returning to the director’s chair, and/or who will be starring in the film if franchise staple Shia LaBeouf is out (which he claims he is).

While we’re still waiting to hear what Transformers 4 will entail, today we at least have a much more solid idea of when the fourth chapter may be coming. Read on for details.

ghostbusters 3 dan aykroyd rumors

Are you ready for yet ANOTHER story involving Dan Aykroyd not only brushing off the latest rumors about Billy Murray causing trouble for Ghostbusters 3 – but also promising a fantastic screenplay for the film, which he is intent on seeing made?

Yes, Aykroyd’s been doing this Ghostbusters dance for years now, to the point where it’s really best to take anything he says about GB 3 – or any rumors concerning the belated horror-comedy threequel in general – with a bucket of salt. Today, thankfully, the comedic actor/writer isn’t so much promising that the film will be made, so much as he’s clarifying who will and won’t be involved IF it actually happens.

The last “significant” development in the ongoing saga that is Ghostbusters 3‘s attempt to claw its way out of development limbo was a ...

jim carrey pierre pierre movie larry charles

There’s been discussion in recent months about Jim Carrey revisiting some of his most lucrative comedy roles from years past, with sequels such as Dumb and Dumber 2 and Bruce Almighty 2. However, it looks like the 50-year-old, rubber-faced (former?) blockbuster comedian is instead moving ahead next with an original project, titled Pierre Pierre.

Fox originally acquired the Pierre Pierre spec script and had Oscar-nominee Jason Reitman (Juno, Young Adult) lined up to direct, but the studio dropped out after Reitman moved on to other projects. Frequent Sacha Baron Cohen collaborator Larry Charles (Borat, Brüno) came onboard thereafter, but the film ended up being stalled – due to a lack of funding to cover its planned $20 million budget.

Screen Daily is reporting that Pierre Pierre now has the necessary financing to ...
