For those who claim there’s nothing original being done in movies, we’d just like to take this opportunity to remind you that there are fresh ideas being put to film everyday: They’re called “indie movies” and a lot of people never bother to see them unless they win a bunch of awards or are one of the lucky few to blow up into a mainstream hit (see: Paranormal Activity).
Not only are there original films made on the indie circuit – there are indie-focused studios that continue to come up with clever ways to get unique films in front of your face. Some studios release their movies on Video On Demand early, others come up with clever viral campaigns, and – as is the case with Fox Searchlight’s upcoming thriller Sound ...

Tom Hardy isn’t a household name, but he will likely be one by the end of 2012. In a series of five films (one of which hasn’t been released yet) from 2010 through this year, the British actor has quickly established a name for himself. This eclectic mix of films show Hardy in a variety of roles – and are quickly propelling him onto on the Hollywood A-list.
Prior to these movies, Hardy had been working in the business for a number of years and earned strong reviews for his work in earlier films, including 2008′s Bronson. There have been several films released in the 21st century that take the idea of a population addicted to voyeurism to bloody extremes. Just off the top of my head: The Ring, Untraceable and the entire found-footage sub-genre (led by Paranormal Activity) all suggest that our collective obsession with watching is not only a detrimental thing – it’s downright dangerous.

Check out the synopsis for Playback, and then the red and green band trailers. Remember, one is NSFW so don’t go broadcasting it all over the office:

There have been rumblings about an impending second installment in the I Am Legend (would-be) franchise being made, ever since the original 2007 film grossed over half a billion dollars worldwide in theaters. Warner Bros. has finally struck a deal to do just that, with Oscar-winner Akiva Goldsman – who co-wrote and produced the original Legend adaptation – now onboard to collaborate on the project (in some form).
Here’s where things get a bit tricky. The second I Am Legend flick is (as Deadline puts it) “not being called a prequel,” and is being fashioned so as to allow Will Smith to reprise his role as scientist Robert Neville (if the A-lister so chooses).
Quick history lesson: some three years ago, Smith reportedly conceived an idea for an I Am Legend prequel, the setup for which would have seen ...

Chronicle has made back its $12 million budget – plus $30 million – and is already considered a box office success. Naturally, such returns have led to talk of a sequel, as well as bigger future projects for the film’s director, Josh Trank.
In a recent interview, Trank discussed the possibility of making a Chronicle 2 before unequivocally shooting down rumors that he’s in talks to direct Fox’s forthcoming reboot of Fantastic Four.
On the topic of Chronicle 2 (courtesy of The Playlist), Josh Trank said:
“I’m still not sure [about 'Chronicle 2']. I was nervous this type of [found footage] movie would be perceived as a gimmick. So I was in denial for a while about what the potential of the film could be.”
A Chronicle sequel by ...
