Oscars 2012 Live Chat

Tonight, the who’s who of Hollywood are gathered at the illustrious Kodak Theatre for the 84th Academy Awards.

With Martin Scorsese’s Hugo and Michel Hazanavicius’ The Artist leading the way with the most Oscar nominations for 2012, this year’s Oscars could very well become a battle of theatrical homages. That being said, Hugo and The Artist are going to have to overcome the competition that Tate Taylor’s The Help has been bringing to this year’s award shows.

Of course, no matter who takes home the coveted Oscar this year, all eyes are on Billy Crystal as he makes his long-awaited return as host of Hollywood’s most prestigious awards show.

Act of Valor tops the box office

The much hyped low budget actioner Act of Valor won the weekend, grossing an impressive $24.7 million at the box office. The Navy SEALs film (read our review), which was directed by Mike McCoy and Scott Waugh, uses real SEALs as the stars with support coming from Roselyn Sanchez.

Leading the pack of 2012 Razzie contenders are some usual suspects, in the form of Michael Bay’s Transformers franchise (thanks to Transformers: Dark of the Moon) and Adam Sandler in a record-breaking nomination run, due to his involvement with such critically-ravaged titles as Just Go with It, Jack and Jill, and Bucky Larson: Born to Be a Star.

Sandler has managed to smash Eddie Murphy’s record for most Razzie nods in a single year (the latter received 5 back in 2007) by stacking up a whopping 11 nominations in 2012. That’s due to ...

gi joe 2 retaliation tv spot roadblock dwayne johnson

One of the major selling points for this summer’s G.I. Joe: Retaliation is how director Jon Chu has found a way to organically “clean house” and recruit plenty of fresh blood for the second installment in the live-action Joe franchise. Today, we have another television spot for the sequel, which likewise features Roadblock waxing philosophical in between bouts of kicking butt and taking names.

Besides the aforementioned bits with Roadblock, there’s not much in the way of new material in this ...
