The Hunger Games hunted down and killed all the competition over the weekend at the box office. The big screen adaptation of the hugely popular young adult novel banked a record breaking $155 million on its debut. The opening was the biggest ever for a non-sequel and the third largest of all time (trailing The Dark Knight’s $158 million)
The Suzanne Collins adaptation grossed $68.2 million on its opening day, almost the same amount as the original Twilight did on its first weekend ($69.1 million). In fact, The Hunger Games is acting like a sequel, with so much pent-up demand, and unlike Stephanie Meyer’s vampire romance, the dystopian drama is also attracting boys.
It’s been a crazy week for the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles live-action franchise reboot, to say the least. Buzz surrounding the project went from being somewhat cautiously optimistic-to-positive-to being downright hostile, all thanks to producer Michael Bay’s revelation about how the Turtles are now going to be straight-up aliens, and his subsequent (condescending?) response to the backlash his comments incited.
Unfortunately, there’s more fuel to add to the fire today, as it has been discovered that the TMNT reboot is going under the working title Ninja Turtles – suggesting that the the eponymous masked warriors are not only going to be purely from another planet/dimension, but will also be missing their trademark adolescent qualities.
Fans who have been curious about the logic behind giving Thor Odinson new sleeveless-and-capeless duds in Joss Whedon’s The Avengers – or how Chris Hemsworth’s superhero alter ego will have changed (or not) from his first solo venture – the actor addresses both issues (among others) in a new interview.

Today’s gallery of Avengers pics isn’t so much centered around the theme of off-duty superheroes or the interior of the S.H.I.E.L.D. Helicarrier – rather, it’s all about our favorites heroes (and villain) striking a pose.
