The Avengers isn’t just winning the love from moviegoers and fans however, as it’s also earning high critical praise with a 94% fresh rating on Rotten Tomatoes and a 4.5/5 score in Screen Rant’s own review of The Avengers. Let’s take a look at the numbers and comparisons.

The Avengers came. The Avengers saw. The Avengers conquered.
Joss Whedon’s big screen comic book mash-up broke records at the box office over the weekend and managed to score the biggest opening weekend EVER! That’s right – bigger than Harry Potter ($169 million) and bigger than The Dark Knight ($158 million). The Marvel movie should gross a mammoth $200 million by Monday morning! Monday 1PM: Final tally is in and is an even bigger than expected $207.4 million with an utterly incredible $47,698 per screen across 4,300 screens.
Sunday 10AM: Saturday's domestic takings came in at $69.7 million, the highest Saturday take of all time. Disney has now issued an opening weekend estimate of $200.3 million (and that's a slightly conservative figure). The final actual figures will be revealed tomorrow morning.
Meanwhile the film’s cumulative global box office gross is an estimated $641.8 million over 12 days in release. Audiences also gave the movie a perfect 'A+' CinemaScore.
Sunday 3AM: It broke many opening weekend records in its international release, now "Marvel's The Avengers" is about to do the same in the United States.
Deadline reports that the film scored a whopping $80.5 million on Friday (including $18.7M in midnight previews), while it's looking like it'll nab an incredible $68+ million haul this Saturday.
Even with the expected Sunday drop off, the film will breeze past current top record holder "Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part Two" which scored $169.2 million for its three-day opening weekend.
The real question is how close the Sunday revenues will get it to $200 million. It might even be the first ever film to break that barrier, assuming it does as exceptionally well on Sunday as it has been doing over the past two days.
