Disney CEO Confirms ‘The Avengers 2′ is In Development

The Avengers 2 Confirmed

With Marvel Studios delivering Disney the biggest theatrical opening ever with The Avengers this weekend, there was nothing but smiles of the faces of those at The Walt Disney Company sharing the corporation’s second quarter earnings today.

The Avengers has banked over $700 million worldwide in less than two weeks, having been open only five days in North America. Disney Chairman and CEO Robert A. Iger announced today that The Avengers 2 is already in development.

The reality of The Avengers 2 is a given, the only question is when. The film is such a massive hit at the box office that we wonder how it’ll affect Marvel Studios’ plans going forward. ‘Killer Joe’ Trailer: Matthew McConaughey is a Texan Psycho Killer

It’s funny to think that back to when Matthew McConaughey’s acting career really start to take off in the ’90s: he was aspiring to be a serious character actor with roles in films like Lone Star, A Time to Kill, Contact, and Amistad; that was before he made a string of forgettable rom-coms (The Wedding Planner, Failure to Launch, etc.) and duds like Sahara and Fool’s Good, prompting endless jokes about him being little more than male eye candy.

That’s all to say: McConaughey has recently gotten back in the habit of tackling more challenging roles in films like The Lincoln Lawyer, Precious director Lee Daniels’ The Paperboy – and Killer Joe, a darkly comical, neo-Noir flick directed by Oscar-winner William Friedkin (The Exorcist), which premiered at last year’s Toronto International Film Festival.

Marvel’s The Avengers has officially kicked the summer 2012 movie season off to a record-breaking start, and other studios are no doubt chomping at the bit to get into the game with their own tentpole offerings.

Today we’ve rounded up new promotional images from The Amazing Spider-Man, as well as new TV advertisements for Pixar’s princess fairy tale Brave and the sci-fi threequel Men in Black III. Add to that a hilarious clip featuring the love life of David Hasselhoff as depicted in Piranha 3DD, a vertigo-inducing new clip from Snow White and the Huntsman, and a Japanese trailer and final poster for the sequel/reboot G.I. Joe Retaliation.
