Movie News Wrap Up: May 19th, 2012

Morgan Freeman kicks-back and joins Michael Douglas and Robert De Niro in Last Vegas; Amy Adams goes to Dark Places; John Cusack and Elijah Wood live in perfect harmony in Grand Piano; Alex Proyas walks like an Egyptian with Gods of Egypt and Anthony Mackie goes the distance with Ben Affleck and Justin Timberlake in Runner, Runner.

The Jon Turteltaub directed film follows four ageing gents as they hit Las(t) Vegas for one final hurrah. It’s believed that Christopher Walken will be the final member of the gang in what is being described as a “Hangover-style comedy.”

Bill Murray Plays FDR in the ‘Hyde Park on Hudson’ Trailer


You can always tell it’s Oscar season when films featuring big-name actors and actresses portraying famous historical figures start rolling into theaters (recent examples include The King’s Speech, My Week with Marilyn, etc.). Focus Features has gone ahead and released a trailer for one such production on the horizon, titled Hyde Park on Hudson.

The Hyde Park on Hudson cast is headed by Bill Murray as Franklin D. Roosevelt – who is joined by his Rushmore costar, Olivia Williams, as the First Lady Eleanor Roosevelt, Samuel West (Howard’s End) as King George VI, and Olivia Colman (Tyrannosaur) as Queen Elizabeth. However, similar to My Week with Marilyn, the film unfolds from the perspective of a more obscure name: Daisy (Laura Linney), FDR’s distant cousin, who also becomes a good friend and confidante to the famous U.S. president – not ...

Dan Harmon Fired as ‘Community’ Season 4 Showrunner; Issues Public Response

The past three months have been a roller coaster ride for fans of NBC’s cult comedy series, Community. First, the show finally returned to the television airwaves after an extended hiatus. Thereafter, it managed to snag a shortened fourth season, even after the series’ producers made preparations for season three to be its last.

However, reports are in that NBC has elected to not bring back creator Dan Harmon as showrunner on the fourth (and final?) season of Community, opting to instead have him serve as a “consulting producer.” According to Harmon, that claim exaggerates how much actual input he’ll have on the show from here-on out.

Casting News: Lewis, Marsan, Moore


Damian Lewis, Jessica Brown-Findlay, Peter Capaldi and Iwan Rheon will star in "Vera" actor turned filmmaker David Leon’s debut feature - the crime thriller "Driven" at Zeitgeist Films.

Shooting kicks off in Newcastle and Northumberland in early 2013 and is based on Leon’s own childhood experiences growing up in the area in the late ’80s and early ’90s. [Source: Screen Daily]

Still Life
Eddie Marsan and Joanne Froggatt will star in Uberto Pasolini's "Still Life" which begins shooting tomorrow in London and Southeast England.

Marsan plays council worker on his final case of notifying the next of kin for someone who died alone. The story is described as a "poignant, quixotic tale of life, love and the afterlife". [Source: Screen Daily]

Very Good Girls
Demi Moore will play the mother of one of the characters in Naomi Foner’s "Very Good Girls" which begins shooting in New York next month for Herrick Entertainment and Groundswell Productions.
