‘Easy Money’ Trailer: Swedish Noir, Presented By Martin Scorsese

Daniel Espinosa directed an adaptation of Jens Lapidus’ novel, Snabba Cash, nearly three years ago. The film opened in theaters around Sweden back in January 2010, but is only now making it to the U.S. (with a new title, Easy Money). Of course, the reason this movie is getting a domestic release at all is because both Espinosa (Safe House) and Easy Money lead Joel Kinnaman (The Killing) are rising names in Hollywood right now.

In fact, the U.S. trailer for Easy Money is almost more about promoting the names involved with the film in some capacity (as opposed to, the actual movie). Those power players include Martin Scorsese – who’s earned a “presented by” credit, for his efforts – and Lapidus, whose international best-selling source material has earned adoration from well-known, respectable types like author James Ellroy (L.A. ...

"Atlas Shrugged" Sequel Hits In October

0

Despite the dismal failure of the first outing, things are still progressing on "Atlas Shrugged – Part 2" with an October 12th release being announced says The Hollywood Reporter.

Distribution exec Bill Lewis ("The Twilight Saga") and marketing maven Russell Schwartz ("The Lord of the Rings" trilogy) - have come onboard the project to help push the $15 million project through more traditional outlets after the word-of-mouth and social media push for the first film failed to reach much of an audience (it opened decently but quickly plummeted).

Producer Harmon Kaslow says they've allocated "ten times more money" to market this outing and plans to open the two-hour film on over 300 screens. One surprise for those who did see the first film is that the entire cast has been changed, the same characters are now being played by different people including Samantha Mathis, Jason Beghe, Esai Morales and D.B. Sweeney.

Julian Assange Is The New Meg Ryan?

German filmmaker Cyril Tuschi ("SommerHundeSöhne," "Turn") is looking to make "Three Dates With Harry Harrison", a project that's being described as an English language rom-com about Wikileaks founder Julian Assange.

Producer Jan Krüger tells Screen Daily that "Cyril came up with the fact that Assange had been involved in internet dating using the screen name of Harry Harrison. So, the film recounts three dates with Harry Harrison taking place in 2010."

They've even broken down the dates themselves - "One date is in Iceland when he was establishing a organisation that would change journalism, democracy and the Internet. Then we jump to the second date with a fan in Sweden where he is the man of the moment and feted like a popstar… Finally, there is an internet date in a manor house in London, with ‘Harrison’ all by himself wearing an electronic tag, third date being with a woman journalist who reflects on where he has ended up."

Tuschi has been working with UK screenwriter Michael Gaster on a screenplay for the project about this "Robin Hood of the digital age who stumbles over his own personality". Shooting aims to begin next Summer with 80% of the project to be shot in North Germany. A British or an Australian actor is expected to play Assange.

Krüger adds "We are interested in the fact that, from an early age, this character has always wanted to change the world and was constantly on the move with his mother in Australia to get away from the stepfather. As a 15-year-old, he had stood up to his stepfather as a symbol of authority. This is something that runs like a common thread through ‘Harrison’s’ life."

It's somewhat familiar material for Tuschi who recently did a documentary on the imprisoned Russian oligarch Mikhail Khodorkovsky,

HBO's series premiere of Aaron Sorkin’s "The Newsroom" pulled in 2.1 million viewers in its initial airing at 10pm.

That's just behind the series premiere for "Game of Thrones" with 2.2 million in 2010, and ahead of "True Blood" which took in 1.4 million viewers in 2008 (but pulled in 4.7 million viewers on Sunday for its fifth season's third episode).

'Newsroom' managed another 600,000 in its repeat airing afterwards. Now, to help get word of mouth out about the show, HBO has released the full pilot episode on Youtube which you can watch by clicking here.
