Movie News Wrap Up: July 28th, 2012
0This week:
Get ready for some despicable Minions; Jeremy Renner and Bill Condon decide to plug WikiLeaks; Steve Zaillian and Ridley Scott remember The Day Britain Stopped; and Jon Favreau occupies Wall Street.
Despicable Me did anything but despicable business at the box office. The animated film scored a mighty $251 million domestically and another $291 million elsewhere around the globe. A sequel is in the works, but there’s also news that a spin-off centered on the minions – possibly titled The Minions – is coming.

According to Deadline:
“The film is an original story that will introduce new characters and reprise others that originated in Despicable Me, but the focus is on the antics of the yellow fellows as they interact with human characters.”
The plan is for Despicable Me 2 to ...

‘Skyfall’ Olympics Trailer: First Glimpse of Javier Bardem as Silva
0After a fairly long hiatus – it’s been four years since Quantum of Solace – James Bond will return in Sam Mendes’ Skyfall this November. And though we’ve seen the trailer and heard tell of the Comic-Con footage (courtesy of our very own Kofi Outlaw), we’ve yet to see more than a shadowy glimpse of the villain, played by Javier Bardem.
Last night, a teaser trailer (above) aired during the Olympics opening ceremony that featured, among other things, the first shadow-less glimpse of Javier Bardem’s blond, creepy villain, simply known as “Silva.”

After four films in that series – featuring three different actors as the Caped Crusader- the franchise seemed to have nowhere to go. It was difficult to imagine then that Batman would soon be revitalized in a new series of films that were both commercially successful and critically-praised.
But that changed in 2005 when Christian Bale put on the suit, Chris Nolan stood behind the camera and a new franchise was born with Batman Begins. Now, it’s hard – especially for young people – to imagine Batman movies without Nolan behind the camera. Seven years after Begins hit theaters, the trilogy reached its ...

AMC Cancels ‘The Killing’
0
After much deliberation, we’ve come to the difficult decision not to renew The Killing for a third season. AMC is incredibly proud of the show and is fortunate to have worked with such a talented team on this project, from showrunner Veena Sud and our terrific partners at Fox Television Studios to the talented, dedicated crew and exceptional cast.
Despite initial strong ratings and Emmy nominations for two of its stars, The Killing received backlash from fans and critics when it failed to solve ...

‘The Raid’s’ Joe Taslim & Model Clara Paget Joining ‘Fast and the Furious 6′
0
The Fast and the Furious franchise is alive and thriving, following series-high box office returns for Fast Five (the most critically-acclaimed installment to date). Fast and the Furious 6 is attracting rising talent in ex-MMA star Gina Carano (Haywire) and Luke Evans (Immortals), who are joining the F&TF (gotta love that acronym) ensemble of Paul Walker, Vin Diesel, and Jordana Brewster, along with F5 addition Dwayne Johnson and series alum Tyrese Gibson, as well as Michelle Rodriguez. We can now add martial artist Joe Taslim and model Clara Paget to that list.
Scroll on down to learn more about the series newcomers in Fast and the Furious 6, along with plot/character details for Justin Lin’s fourth go in the F&TF director’s chair.
Taslim is an Indonesian martial artist (a ...
