'Total Recall' 2012 vs 1990 vs 1966

Even before the film was released in theaters, Len Wiseman’s Total Recall created loads of confusion among fans of Paul Verhoeven’s 1990 action film as well as Philip K. Dick’s short story “We Can Remember It for You Wholesale.” For months the “remake” filmmakers attempted to distance Total Recall 2012 from the prior movie, which starred Arnold Schwarzenegger in the role of Douglas Quaid, asserting that the new film would be truer to the short story source material.

Ultimately, “truer” seems to mean more grounded – considering the new film swaps out Mars, mutants, and aliens, for a more terrestrial conflict featuring a post-apocalyptic Earth landscape, robots, and corrupt politicians. As a result, how does Total Recall (2012) compare to Total Recall (199o) as well as the “We Can Remember ...

‘House’ Producers Developing Navy Drama for Fox

Russel Friend and Garrett Lerner – executive producers who also wrote 18 episodes of the series House M.D. - are working together again on a workplace drama that takes place on a naval aircraft carrier. However, the series seems to be different than other series set in this branch of the armed forces (like NCIS or Jag), as it doesn’t seem to combine the procedural element that each of those shows contained.

Plot details are pretty scarce on this new series, but it will have quite the young cast with 18-20 year olds risking their lives on the job everyday. The one specific plot element we seem to have is that of a female fighter pilot who attempts to solve a murder that happens on board the carrier, but it’s not clear if that’s an arc that will last throughout the series. The project ...

‘Wonderfalls’ Star Cast As ‘Hannibal’ Lead

Caroline Dhavernas Hannibal NBC

Another day and another casting announcement for Bryan Fuller’s Hannibal series has been announced. At the moment, Fuller’s re-imagining of Thomas Harris’ most famous character boasts one of the more impressive casts for a television series in quite a while. Now, Fuller is adding a new name to the ensemble by bringing his former Wonderfalls star, Caroline Dhavernas, into the fray.

Dhavernas will reportedly be taking on the part of Hannibal Lecter (Mads Mikkelsen) protégé Dr. Alana “Al” Bloom. Though Dr. Bloom studied under Lecter, she now teaches psychology at Georgetown University, while acting as an FBI consultant and criminal profiler – a moonlighting gig that affords her the opportunity to introduce Lecter to Jack Crawford (Laurence Fishburne), and effectively set into motion the course of events that will see Hannibal Lecter make the acquaintance of ...

‘Cloud Atlas’ Character Images: Same Actors, Different Faces

0

The Wachowskis will return to theaters in a big way this fall with their blockbuster adaptation of David Mitchell’s time-spanning novel, Cloud Atlas. The book chronicles human experience and interconnectivity across six time periods that stretch from the 19th and 20th centuries, to the distant (and not so distant) future – with characters who appear in (sometimes wildly) different forms as reincarnated versions of themselves. If that sounds like one hell of a challenging story to translate to the screen, rest assured that it was.

The Cloud Atlas extended trailer provided a look at the spectacular visual composition of the film, as imagined by The Wachowskis (who created the Matrix trilogy) and their collaborator, Tom Tykwer (Run Lola Run). Today, we have two dozen new images from the film, which show us the various characters from the different eras of the story, with headlining actors like Tom Hanks and Halle Berry undergoing some ...
