‘Community’ Creator Dan Harmon Reflects on Getting Fired by NBC
0
It’s no secret that Community creator Dan Harmon won’t be back for the NBC comedy series’ fourth season this fall (producers David Guarascaio and Moses Port are taking over), but the producer is finally speaking out and reflecting on the network’s decision to fire him from his own show. Basically, it comes down to show business and the need for high ratings in order to keep a series alive. Harmon knows that he was not giving NBC or Sony Pictures Television the results they required and admits, “I would have fired me.”
Harmon’s not looking to apologize or beg for another chance at the Peacock network. In fact, the firing really didn’t affect his career in TV outside of Community. Harmon talked to KCRW’s The Business (via THR) ...

‘The Avengers 2′ Will Be Written & Directed by Joss Whedon

In what’s easily classified as good news for Disney shareholders, the parent company of Marvel has officially announced that Joss Whedon, the director and writer behind The Avengers will be back to helm The Avengers 2. Whedon will also be writing the film, just as he did in rewriting Zak Penn’s script for The Avengers along with editing parts of Captain America: The First Avenger.
What does this mean for the other Marvel Studios projects over the next few years?
When Whedon initially came aboard to help Marvel Studios’ most ambitious film to date, there was understandably some skepticism due to his track record at the box office and with his latest show. Serenity, as awesome at it was, didn’t bank well, and Dollhouse wasn’t quite up to snuff with his previous television endeavors. On the ...

Jeremy Renner Wants The Hawkeye He Signed On For
0The first time Hawkeye was name-dropped as a potential character to be introduced in Marvel Studios’ interconnected cinematic universe was back after the success of Iron Man, when rumors pointed towards Hawkeye and Black Widow showing up together in Iron Man 2. Half of that came true and it wasn’t until Jeremy Renner shared some interesting information about a meeting he had with Marvel that we had what came to be concrete info on the character.
Renner, who’s a friend of The Avengers (pre-Joss whedon) screenwriter Zak Penn, had gone in initially to discuss Captain America and instead got caught up in a conversation about the character of Hawkeye. They talked costumes, stories from the books, details about the character and ideas for how he could show up in Thor and later in The Avengers. Two years later, that came true when on the eve of Comic-Con 2010 he had officially ...

Sacha Baron Cohen Sells ‘James Bond’ Style Spy Spoof to Paramount

Super spy James Bond has faced his fair share of bad guys over the years, but one enemy he can’t seem to escape is the movie spoof. From Austin Powers to Johnny English, the world’s most famous secret agent has been parodied time and time again. Now 007 is being sent up once more, this time by comedian Sacha Baron Cohen.
According to THR, Paramount Studios bought a pitch from Sacha Baron Cohen and Phil Johnston for an untitled James Bond spoof about a spy who, according to the studio, “is forced to go on the run with his long-lost brother, a moronic soccer hooligan.”
Sacha Baron Cohen has a history of pushing the envelope with movies such as Borat (2006) and The Dictator (2012), leading to several ...

‘This Is 40′ Trailer: ‘Knocked Up’s’ Pete & Debbie Plan To Kill Each Other
0Judd Apatow’s This Is 40 follows the (mis)adventures of Knocked Up couple Pete (Paul Rudd) and Debbie (Leslie Mann) as they reach the milestone that is 40 years of age, while grappling with common struggles that come with being responsible adults and raising kids. That’s essentially the plot in a nutshell, as the first trailer summarized in a matter of two minutes.
The new trailer for This Is 40 is a compilation of funny exchanges and amusingly awkward moments from the film, such as when Pete and his biking buddy (played by longtime SNL contributor Robert Smigel) fantasize about their wives suddenly passing away peacefully – or pillow talk that culminates with Debbie marveling at how often she’s imagined killing Pete (and how simple it would actually be).
We’re also treated to several appearances from celebrities who, ...
