Eighteen-year-old Maddie Whittier (Amandla Stenberg) was diagnosed with severe combined immunodeficiency – aka boy in the bubble disease – when she was just a baby, meaning her immune system isn’t strong enough to fight off even the weakest of viruses or infections.
