The Dark Crystal Prequel TV Series Announced by Netflix
Fans of the cult-classic 1982 fantasy-adventure film The Dark Crystal, as created by celebrated American puppeteer Jim Henson and co-directed by frequent collaborator Frank Oz, are in for a real treat per an official announcement of production on a prequel television series being produced and distributed by Netflix. Well known by many fans of Henson’s work, the original film blended dark fantasy elements with Henson’s inherent whimsy previously perfected on the original The Muppet Showthat debuted initially on ABC in the 1970s.
In keeping with the same narrative tradition that would make a welcome return in Henson’s equally beloved movie musical Labyrinth from 1986, The Dark Crystal received mixed-to-positive reviews upon initial release in the early 1980s, but has since established itself as a dark fantasy classic in its own right.
