Sony Pictures has announced that Academy Award-nominated actor Tom Hardy has signed on for the lead role in “Venom”.
First appearing in the “Spider-Man” comic book series as an alien costume worn by Peter Parker, the creature ultimately left Peter Parker and merged with photographer Eddie Brock to become the antihero known as Venom.
It’s expected this film, announced in March, will not tie to the new Tom Holland-led “Spider-Man” franchise. Scott Rosenberg (“Pain & Gain”) and Jeff Pinkner (“The Amazing Spider-Man 2”) are penning the script while Ruben Fleischer (“Zombieland”) will direct the movie which is slated to begin production this Fall ahead of a debut on October 5th next year.
