War for the Planet of the Apes star Andy Serkis stopped by The Late Show with Stephen Colbert last night to promote the third film in the post-apocalyptic prequel series. While there, the actor found himself channeling his iconic Lord of the Rings character, Gollum, to poke fun at some of Donald Trump’s tweets.
Serkis has become legendary for his innovations as a motion capture performer. His breakthrough in the medium came in the Lord of the Rings trilogy, which he followed up by appearing in LOTR director Peter Jackson’s 2005 adaptation of King Kong, where he played the titular doomed ape. Word came yesterday that Akiva Goldsman’s Weed Road production company and Paramount Pictures had come to a new deal, one which would include Goldsman helping develop and produce the long in the works adaptation of Tom Clancy’s 1999 novel “Rainbow Six”.
Adding to this report today, Deadline says loose talks have taken place with “Deadpool” star Ryan Reynolds and would see the project developed as vehicle for him to play Clancy’s darker mercenary hero character John Clark.
The original novel revolves around Ex-Navy SEAL Clark who becomes head of an international task force to combat terrorism. The team quickly is confronted by a series of international incidents.
Josh Appelbaum & Andre Nemec will adapt the script. Willem Dafoe and Liev Schrieber have previously portrayed the character in “Clear and Present Danger” and “The Sum of All Fears” respectively. Should ‘Rainbow’ succeed, its expected the other Clark tale “Without Remorse” would be adapted nex.
Goldsman is also slated to direct a feature based on “Deadpool” creator Rob Liefeld’s comic creation “Avengelyne,” and help develop a film series based on the “Ologies” young adult novel series.
