The summer box office resurgence continued this weekend with the arrival of a phenomenal trilogy finale.
Coming in first is War for the Planet of the Apes (read our review), which made $56.5 million in its first three days. That debut is more in line with 2011’s Rise of the Planet of the Apes ($54.8 million) than direct predecessor Dawn of the Planet of the Apes ($72.6 million). This may be surprising to some fans, as War earned universal praise thanks to its emotionally compelling narrative and strong motion-capture performances.
