Superhero movies would not be what they are today were it not for the Dark Knight trilogy. In revamping the masked vigilante for the mainstream, writer/director Christopher Nolan elevated a genre previously thought of as basic to the realm of high art, earning universal praise and, thanks to the late Heath Ledger, the genre’s first (and only) Oscar-winning performance. The performances did not stop with Heath though, as the overall cast brings many famous characters to life.
