Solo Had An Awesome Game of Thrones Cameo Everyone Missed
Solo: A Star Wars Story had a Game of Thrones cameo and we all missed it! Hidden in the opening scenes was a cleverly disguised cameo from none other than the Stark house animal, direwolf Nymeria. While it is unknown if this cameo was an intended nod to the highly popular HBO show, it will no doubt have the attention of Game of Thrones fans everywhere.
Fans have been eager for any bit of Game of Thrones they can get since season 7 ended last year, so the sweet cameo of Arya Stark's (Maisie Williams) direwolf Nymeria is a sight for sore eyes. Nymeria was last seen on Game of Thrones during a touching reunion with her human companion last summer. Arya had previously parted ways with Nymeria in order to save her life, after the animal's execution was ordered by Cersei Lannister. With this newly revealed cameo, fans can once again warmly remember the direwolf as they continue to endure a grueling wait for season 8, which premieres in 2019.
Revealed on a recent episode of The Star Wars Show by Lucasfilm Story Group member Pablo Hidalgo, Saxon - the dog who plays Nymeria in GOT - has talent beyond Winterfell, having appeared in several different films. For Solo, Saxon was trained to wear and perform as a Corellian hound dog. Yes, he is the dog chasing Han Solo, played by Alden Ehrenreich, off his home planet.
Ever since Disney revamped Star Wars for the current generation, cameos have become an expected element of the franchise. Saxon is not the only cameo to be hidden from fans, beneath the magic of costume design and CGI. Daniel Craig appeared in The Force Awakens, hidden beneath the costume of a stormtrooper and assigned to guard Kylo Ren's prisoner. The Last Jedi also saw many stars hidden throughout including: Tom Hardy, Prince Harry and Prince William. Additionally, Simon Pegg played Unkar Plutt, the junkyard manager in The Force Awakens.
Saxon is not the only Game of Thrones alum to join the ranks of Star Wars. Emilia Clark, who plays Daenerys Targaryon, stars in Solo as Qi'ra, while Gwendoline Christie (Brienne of Tarth) appears in both The Force Awakens and The Last Jedi as Captain Phasma. It seems safe to say that the force is strong throughout the Seven Kingdoms.
