Tony Stark Was Partly CG In "Iron Man 3"
0
It turns out that it wasn't just the scenes of Iron Man in his suit in "Iron Man 3" that didn't include Robert Downey Jr. actually acting out the scene.
As previously reported, Downey was forced to take six weeks off during production to recover from an ankle injury. That kind of delay would've destroyed the studio's plans to get the film into theaters by May 3rd.
Instead, a special effects team was brought in to continue filming. Essentially a body double shot the scenes live action, while Downey's face was shot acting out the scenes and digitally inserted over the double.
Visual effects supervisor Chris Townsend says: "We were able to reconstruct [Downey] as Tony Stark on set, with the help of a body double and the facial captures we collected afterwards."
Similar techniques were used in films such as the early scenes of Chris Evans in "Captain America: The First Avenger," and the way Armie Hammer became his own twin in "The Social Network".
The entire beach house/cliff scene at the end of "Iron Man 3" was reportedly constructed using this technique.

Universal Pictures has scored the rights to Soman Chainani's just released novel "The School For Good And Evil". Joe Roth will produce.
The first in a proposed trilogy, the story follows two girls who are kidnapped from their homes and sent to The School for Good and Evil, where they are trained to be fairy tale heroes and villains, princesses and witches.
The studio has also begun negotiations to pick up "Rosaline," the comedic revisionist take on "Romeo & Juliet" that was previously setup at Fox 2000.
The story set in the classic period of the play and told from the viewpoint of Rosaline, Romeo’s first love, whom he dumps for her cousin, Juliet. Scott Neustadter and Michael H. Weber ("500 Days of Summer") penned the script, while Shawn Levy is producing.
Stevenson On Asgard’s Decay In "Thor" Sequel
0
Later this year actor Ray Stevenson reprises his role of Volstagg, one of the Warriors Three, in Marvel's upcoming sequel "Thor: The Dark World".
Talking with The Wall Street Journal about returning to the character, the actor revealed how the different look of Asgard in the film will actually be explained in the film's narrative:
"In the first 'Thor' Asgard had this tremendous peace among the 9 realms. They were riding at the heights. Everything is working and looking as it should be.
In this one, the realms are being whipped up into various rebellions. There is a darker malignant force out there and we are in the process of engaging in long protracted skirmishes and battles.
The luster and shine of the city has been taken off and it all leads to a huge assault, an attack at the heart of Asgard. It could be completely wiped out, the stakes are a lot higher."
Stevenson adds that he gets a lot more fight scenes in this film than he did in the first, and that his character is "great on a battlefield."
