Van Damme’s "Timecop" Gets Rebooted

Universal Pictures and Global Produce are set to develop a remake of the 1994 Jean-Claude Van Damme time travel action feature "Timecop".

The original, based on a Dark Horse Comic mini-series, was set in a near future where time travel is regulated by a special police force.

One officer (Van Damme) runs afoul a crooked politician (Ron Silver) who is using time travel to further his political career. It is one of Van Damme's most financially and critically successful films (and my personal favorite of his).

This remake however is expected to be more of a reboot, taking the basics and re-imagining the concept so it could serve as a potential franchise launcher.

Marc Shmuger and Tom McNulty will produce the project which is currently out to writers.

Early ‘World War Z’ and ‘This Is the End’ Reactions – Good Apocalypse Movies?

The fast-approaching World War Z and This Is the End are polar opposites – tonally speaking – yet both apocalyptic movies have prompted divided responses, during the buildup to their theatrical release. Director Marc Forster and star Brad Pitt’s WWZ adaptation has stirred up controversy over its departure from the source material, with a troubled production and lackluster marketing “helping” to heap on more negative buzz. Similarly, This Is the End either looks brilliant and hilarious or crude and dull-witted, depending (partly) on your general feelings about past comedic offerings from actors like Seth Rogen, James Franco, Jonah Hill and Danny McBride.

‘Captain America 2′ & ‘Thor 2′ Interviews: Arnim Zola’s Return, War In Asagard & More

Several new characters are set to join the ranks of Marvel’s Phase Two films. Captain America: The Winter Soldier will see the addition of Anthony Mackie as The Falcon and Robert Redford as the new head of S.H.I.E.L.D. Meanwhile, Thor: The Dark World will see a mighty new villain in Chris Eccleston as Malekith the Accursed.

But it won’t be all fresh blood. In addition to the leads, both movies are bringing back many key returning characters, including Arnim Zola in Captain America: The Winter Soldier (played by Toby Jones) and Volstagg in Thor: The Dark World (played by Ray Stevenson). ‘Believe’ Trailer: J.J. Abrams & Alfonso Cuarón’s New Sci-fi TV Pilot

Of the shows currently lined up to fill NBC’s fall schedule, brand new sci-fi series Believe stands out as one of the more attention-grabbing, mainly because of J.J. Abrams (Star Trek) serving as executive producer and Alfonso Cuarón (Gravity) as writer and director of the pilot episode.

Believe stars newcomer Johnny Sequoyah as Bo, a young girl with incredible psychic abilities who is ruthlessly pursued by shadowy, malevolent organizations trying to use her for their own purposes. Jake McLaughlin (who, coincidentally, also played a character called Bo in the short-lived Starz series Crash) plays an escaped convict who is tasked with “kidnapping” the super-powered girl in order to keep her safe.

Another ‘Guardians of the Galaxy’ Villain Rumor Hints At Kree Introduction

The most mysterious and interesting of Marvel Studios’ upcoming “Phase Two” slate is that of the risky and ambitious Guardians of the Galaxy. Marvel Comics fans have a rough idea of who the new main characters will be, from official artwork released during last summer’s Iron Man 3 Comic-Con panel and pre-production concept art since, but what other space-faring characters and alien races of the cosmos will be included remains a mystery as James Gunn slowly casts his roster.

Chris Pratt, Zoe Saldana and Dave Bautista are playing three of the leads, and some of the many supporting roles are being played by Michael Rooker, Ophelia Lovibond, Enzo Cilenti and Lee Pace, the latter of which is reportedly playing the unnamed feature villain of Guardians of the Galaxy.

It's been two years. Phil (Bradley Cooper), Stu (Ed Helms) and Doug (Justin Bartha) are happily living uneventful lives at home. Tattoos have been lasered off, files purged. Still lacking a sense of purpose, the group's black sheep has ditched his meds and given in to his natural impulses in a big way-which, for Alan, means no boundaries, no filters and no judgment-until a personal crisis forces him to finally seek the help he needs.
And who better than his three best friends to make sure he takes the first step. This time, there's no bachelor party. No wedding. What could possibly go wrong? But when the Wolfpack hits the road, all bets are off.

Netflix Wants ‘Arrested Development’ Season 5

A pair of dueling Netflix executives helped to both shatter and then revive hope that the upcoming 15-episode revival of Arrested Development could be more than a one and done proposition, but now Netflix Content Chief Ted Sarandos seems to be providing even more clarity about the future for Arrested Development and the streaming giant.

In an interview with THR, Sarandos indicated that the ground was fertile for more Bluth family fun and another season from the formerly cancelled cult comedy, though he also cautioned that such an undertaking could be as difficult as the first go-around due to the cast and crew’s busy schedule.

Timecop Reboot in Development at Universal Pictures

The 1994 sci-fi action-thriller Timecop is getting the reboot treatment at Universal Pictures. The studio is seeking writers to craft a completely re-imagined concept and story. Marc Shmuger (We Steal Secrets: The Story of WikiLeaks) and Tom McNulty (The Watch) are producing.
Jean-Claude Van Damme starred in the original as a security company agent who regulates time travel. He tangles with a corrupt politician (Ron Silver) with ties to his past. Jean-Claude Van Damme will not be a part of this project.
The original is based on the Dark Horse Comics series created by Mike Richardson and Mark Verheiden. Mike Richardson went on to produce films such as Hellboy, 30 Days of Night, and R.I.P.D., while Mark Verheiden has made his mark on the small screen, producing shows such as Battlestar Galactica, Heroes, and Falling Skies. There is no word whether they will be involved in the reboot.
Timecop also spawned a short-lived Timecop TV series in 1997 and the 2003 straight-to-DVD sequel Timecop 2: The Berlin Decision.
Timecop was released September 16th, 1994 and stars Jean-Claude Van Damme, Mia Sara, Ron Silver, Bruce McGill, Gloria Reuben, Scott Bellis, Jason Schombing, Scott Lawrence. The film is directed by Peter Hyams.

Netflix May Do Arrested Development Movie and Season 5

Netflix's chief content officer Ted Sarandos and CEO Reed Hastings have gathered to talk about the future of Netflix on the eve of their biggest original programming launch to date. This Sunday, the popular streaming service will debut all 15 new episodes of Arrested Development. Some call it Season 4, others call it the first act in a long discussed Arrested Development movie. Though, that movie has yet to be greenlit.
While a major studio could pick up the rights to bring Arrested Development to the big screen soon, its also very possible that the movie might be made for and distributed by Netflix.
Reed Hastings reveals this interesting bit of information.
"We have talked openly about a movie scenario..."
Does this mean that Netflix is getting into original theatrical content as well as TV content? Or willl Arrested Development the Movie serve as another event for the streaming service that is exclusive only to subscribers? That has not been revealed. But, in addition to the movie, we might also see future episodes that will make up a possible Season 5.
"We would love to do more, and we have a deal in place that says that there could be. The problem is logistics. They were all working full-time and doing this show in between, and they did it for the love of the show and for Mitchell Hurwitz. If we can muster up that love again, we'd love to do it again."
The duo also talked about Phase 2 of their original content slate, revealing that we may see original series from Jodie Foster, Sofia Coppola and Warren Beatty in the near future. While House of Cards Season 2 is a sure thing, and currently in production, Hemlock Grove's fate is still being decided upon.
Ted Sarandos explains.
"We're hearing the pitches for the second season with plotlines and storylines now."
In 2014, its possible that Netflix will double the amount of original programming it currently plans to stream in 2013. Ted continued.
"It's feasible that we would double the load that we did this year [with eight new shows]. People's tastes are wildly diverse, and I want to be able to appeal to all of those tastes and across demos.
Sense8 from the Wachowski siblings is a genre that we were looking for, adult contemporary sci-fi, and done in a way that's very difficult to do for television, both because of budget constraints and because sci-fi storytelling tends to be very complex. Because of our "watch them all at once" mentality, we were able to allow them to create a dense and complicated world.
The other thing I look at is the tween segment. Hemlock Grove is horror, but it's not really CW horror; it's much more adult than that. So I think that we'd like to look at some series in that category. There's probably a lot of opportunity in the comedy space, too. The more traditional sitcom space, but done with a different twist. Not like a straight-up-the-middle network sitcom, but the kind of thing that I think FX has done a great job with in shows like Louie and Wilfred.
And then we're doing quite a bit in the original standup comedy space, too. Bill Burr, for example, is somebody who has had a great cult following, and now his audience is getting so large from him being on Netflix. He is touring in all of the parts of the world where Netflix is, like Norway and Finland, because he has an audience there now. So, we'll definitely be competitive [with HBO and Showtime] in that space. it's also a great way to cultivate talent for future scripted projects."

Todd Haynes to Direct Carol Starring Cate Blanchett and Mia Wasikowska

Todd Haynes (I'm Not There, Far From Heaven) has signed on to direct Carol for Number 9, which has Cate Blanchett and Mia Wasikowska attached to star. The director's frequent collaborator Christine Vachon is also boarding the project as a producer.
We first reported on this drama last May, when John Carney (Once) was attached to direct. He has since had to back out, due to scheduling conflicts.
The story is an adaptation of Patricia Highsmith's 1952 novella "The Price of Salt," which follows the relationship between two women in 1950s New York. One is a young department store clerk (Mia Wasikowska) who dreams of a better life, and the other is a woman (Cate Blanchett) trapped in a loveless marriage. Playwright Phyllis Nagy wrote the screenplay adaptation.
Elizabeth Karlsen and Stephen Woolley are producing alongside Christine Vachon. No production schedule was given.
Carol comes to theaters in 2014 and stars Cate Blanchett, Mia Wasikowska. The film is directed by John Crowley.

Bad Teacher Gets a Series Order at CBS

Despite announcing their full 2013-2014 lineup last week, CBS has issued a late series order for their Bad Teacher pilot. It isn't known whether the network plans on launching this comedy series in the fall or, most likely, midseason.
Ari Graynor stars as Meredith Davis, a foul-mouthed divorcee who becomes a teacher in a quest to find her next husband. The plot diverts slightly from the 2011 movie Bad Teacher, where Cameron Diaz played a teacher who was ready to leave her job and marry a rich man, until he dumps her.
David Alan Grier, Kristin Davis, Sara Gilbert, and Ryan Hansen co-star in the series.
Hilary Winston (Community, Happy Endings) wrote the pilot script and will executive produce alongside Gene Stupnitsky and Lee Eisenberg, who wrote the Bad Teacher movie screenplay. Sam Hansen, Jimmy Miller, and Sara Rodier also serve as executive producers.
Bad Teacher was released June 24th, 2011 and stars Cameron Diaz, Lucy Punch, Jason Segel, Justin Timberlake, Phyllis Smith, John Michael Higgins, Dave Allen, Jillian Armenante. The film is directed by Jake Kasdan.

Star Wars: Episode VII continues to come together for its expected 2014 shoot date, with John Williams confirmed to compose the score and Michael Kaplan confirmed as the costume designer.
Michael Kaplan is a previous collaborator of J.J. Abrams, and worked on both Star Trek and Star Trek Into Darkness, as well as Mission: Impossible Ghost Protocol. Kaplan himself confirmed his involvement with Star Wars: Episode VII, telling Clothes on Film the following statement.
"I am very excited to be working on Star Wars. I'm so looking forward to collaborating, once again, with J.J."
Michael Kaplan has previously worked with Star Wars: Episode VII star Harrison Ford on 1982's Blade Runner, one of his first jobs.
John Williams had previously hinted that he was involved with the music for Star Wars: Episode VII, despite Michael Giacchino having scored all of J.J. Abrams' past directorial efforts. Williams has now confirmed with FMM Film Music Media that he will be in charge of the music for this new sequel, having previously conducted the soundtracks for all 6 movies in the franchise.

"Only God Forgives" Scores Boos At Cannes

A few days ago the talk of the Cannes Film Festival was the brilliance of the Coen brothers' "Inside Llewyn Davis". Earlier this week there were raves all around for Steven Soderbergh's "Behind the Candelabra". J.C. Chandor's near dialogue-free Robert Redford survival drama "All is Lost" has also scored good nods.

Over the past 24 hours or so, the buzz has all been about "Only God Forgives," the re-teaming of "Drive" director Nicolas Winding Refn and actor Ryan Gosling. That reaction, however, has been less enthusiastic.

Variety reports that the Bangkok-set, in competition, hyperviolent thriller scored boos at its press screening. Said boos were countered by scattered applause and defiant shouts of "Bravo!".

Reviews for the film consistently praise Kristin Scott Thomas' turn and the film's stylistic look, but have decried it as an exercise in pure style and no substance.

The result has been fairly mixed reviews overall, with Gosling's "near-catatonic" hero (he has just 17 lines in the entire film) coping quite a bit of flack. Nevertheless, the film remains a highly anticipated one for art house fans.

'God' is currently scheduled for a theatrical and VOD same day release in the U.S. on July 19th.

"Walking Dead" To Continue Indefinitely?

Ratings juggernaut "The Walking Dead" shows no sign of decay.

AMC Networks CEO Josh Sapan says that he "sees no end in sight" for the popular and acclaimed series adaptation of the comic "The Walking Dead". Talking at the Barclays Global Technology, Media and Telecommunications Conference, Sapan says:

"We hope that zombies live forever and we’ve just begun to find out what the post-apocalyptic world is like, so that we’ll be sitting here at the Barclays conference in 2022 discussing the fact that Walking Dead is not over."

He also added that "We’ll all suffer from some minor heartbreak when these shows come to a natural close" when talking about the nearly upon us endings of the network's two other big success stories - "Breaking Bad" and "Mad Men".

Coppola Plans New Italian-American Epic

Francis Ford Coppola is reportedly readying an untitled film chronicling an Italian-American family from the 1930s to the 1960s.

Coppola is writing the screenplay, which is described as a coming-of-age story that focuses on a boy and girl in their late teens.

Coppola has also setup offices at the Paramount lot for the project, but no conversations have yet been held as to whether the studio will be involved with financing or distributing.

Courtney Bright and Nicole Daniels will star in the project, while Fred Roos will produce.

Winterbottom Set For "Trip" Sequel, "Angel"

Michael Winterbottom is set to helm "The Trip To Italy," a sequel to the acclaimed BBC2 comedy hit "The Trip".

Rob Brydon and Steve Coogan will return for the project which is expected to be produced in the same format as the previous incarnation - both a six part half-hour comedy series, and a cut down two hour theatrical feature.

In this sequel, the pair tour Italy, through Piedmont, Liguria, Tuscany, Rome, the Amalfi Coast and Capri. Brydon and Coogan play versions of themselves, on assignment to write about food.

A month-long shoot is set to begin this Friday with rights already sold to several countries. Winterbottom is expected to segue from that to filming the Italy-set "The Face of an Angel" in the fourth quarter of the year.

The story follows a journalist covering a big murder case who meets a filmmaker researching the trial. The focus then turns to the filmmaker's personal life and his nightmarish visions of Dante.

FX’s ‘The Strain’ Adds More Cast Members

One of the more intriguing projects on Pacific Rim director Guillermo Del Toro’s always-crowded slate is the FX-backed television adaptation of The Strain novel trilogy. Del Toro co-wrote the books – a unique spin on both the vampire and post-apocalyptic genres – with celebrated crime novelist Chuck Hogan (Prince of Thieves, adapted by Ben Affleck in The Town), and will oversee the TV series with Lost veteran Carlton Cuse.

Beyond the casting of House of Cards standout Corey Stoll in the lead role of Dr. Ephraim “Eph” Goodweather, news on this project has been light in the last few weeks, other than Del Toro’s confirmation that the series has gone straight into pilot production.

Mia Maestro Joins Evita, "The Strain"

"Alias" and "The Twilight Saga" star Mia Maestro is keeping busy with two new projects in the works.

First up, she'll join Gael Garcia Bernal in Argentine filmmaker Pablo Aguero's untitled period piece about the aftermath of Eva Peron's death. Shooting gets underway early in 2014.

The story will track the fate of her embalmed corpse, unburied for 25 years, against the backdrop of that bloody period in the nation's history.

Maestro would play Peron, while Bernal would play naval officer Emilio Eduardo Massera. Massera was a key member of the Argentinian junta that followed her and was responsible for thousands of disappearances during the 1970s and 1980s.

Maestro will also join the newly cast Jonathan Hyde and Richard Sammel in FX's TV series adaptation of Guillermo del Toro and Chuck Hogan's book trilogy "The Strain".

Maestro will portray Dr. Nora Martinez, a brilliant biochemist and the right-hand woman to lead character Dr. Ephraim "Eph" Goodweather (Corey Stoll). The pair ultimately begin an affair.

The Weinstein Company and its affiliate studio Radius-TWC has acquired the rights to two Keanu Reeves movies at Cannes, Man of Tai Chi and Passengers.
Radius-TWC acquired Man of Tai Chi, which serves as the actor's directorial debut. The story, set in modern-day Beijing, follows a young martial artist (Tiger Hu Chen) who finds himself in the middle of a lucrative underground fight scene, where he must compromise his own morals to get out alive. Keanu Reeves co-stars alongside The Raid: Redemption's Iko Uwais and Jeremy Marinas. Here's what Keanu Reeves had to say about his first directorial effort landing at Radius-TWC.
"I could not hope for a better home than Radius-TWC for Man of Tai Chi. Their passion, understanding and support of the film is what a filmmaker wishes for in bringing their storytelling to the widest possible audience."
The Weinstein Company picked up Passengers, starring Keanu Reeves and Reese Witherspoon, before production begins. The studio plans on a wide release sometime in 2014.
Jon Spaihts (Prometheus) wrote the screenplay, which centers on spacecraft on a century-long journey to a distant planet. When one of the passengers' (Keanu Reeves) sleeping pod malfunctions, he awakens 90 years before everyone else on board, leading him to wake up a woman (Reese Witherspoon).
Brian Kirk, best known for his work on HBO programs Boardwalk Empire and Game of Thrones, is directing Passengers, although it is not known when production will begin.
Man of Tai Chi comes to theaters in 2013 and stars Keanu Reeves, Iko Uwais, Jeremy Marinas, Tiger Hu Chen. The film is directed by Keanu Reeves.

Iron Man 3 Blu-ray and DVD Releasing August 27th

A new rumor is floating around that Shane Black's superhero sequel, Iron Man 3, will debut on Blu-ray and DVD Tuesday August 27, 2013.
No special features have been confirmed by the studio, but it has been rumored that the extra footage included in the Chinese version will be edited into a short film and made available on the DVD. Both the DVD and Blu-ray will likely include some behind-the-scenes footage focusing on the FX in the film. You can also bet that there will be an audio commentary with director Shane Black and writer Drew Pearce.
Marvel Studios' Iron Man 3 pits brash-but-brilliant industrialist Tony Stark/Iron Man against an enemy whose reach knows no bounds. When Stark finds his personal world destroyed at his enemy's hands, he embarks on a harrowing quest to find those responsible. This journey, at every turn, will test his mettle. Del Toro Talks "Pacific Rim" Sequel

Filmmaker Guillermo del Toro is about to begin the publicity push for his sci-fi action epic "Pacific Rim" which is hitting in July.

Speaking with EW, del Toro says Legendary Entertainment CEO Thomas Hull has already asked him about ideas for a sequel: "On the way to the finished screenplay, there were entire angles and ideas that we chopped off because they were too much."

This includes exploring what's on the other side of the inter-dimensional rift beneath the Pacific Ocean - the rift through which these giant alien monsters are coming. del Toro says:

"They’re a race of blind consumers grabbing planets, consuming them, and moving to the next. The idea [with the sequel] is to explore a little bit of that. I won’t spoil it, but I don’t think we’ll repeat a single beat from the first movie."

del Toro, who already has a busy schedule with numerous projects, adds that a sequel will likely be some time off:

"I don’t think the screenplay will come out so quick. It took us a year and a half to do this script, and it’ll take us at least two years to develop the other script."

Also today comes a new featurette about 'drifting', the process through which two pilots control the giant robots in the film.

A couple of key films have undergone release date changes and announcements over the last few days.

First up, "The Mortal Instruments: City of Bones" has been moved up two days and is now slated to open Wednesday, August 21st.

Next, Bill Condon's Wikileaks film "The Fifth Estate" and Mike Newell's adaptation of Charles Dickens' "Great Expectations" are both set for an October 11th release.

Then, Spike Jonze's "Her" will score a limited release on November 20th, and the Vince Vaughn comedy "Delivery Man" is slated for November 22nd.

Finally, Universal remake of Franco Zeffirelli’s "Endless Love" will hit February 14th 2014. Alex Pettyfer and Gabriella Wilde star in the new version.

Dinobots To Appear In "Transformers 4"?

An interesting new rumor over at Joblo claims that the Dinobots from the 1980s Transformers animated series could be popping up in the upcoming fourth "Transformers" film.

Said report claims one of the main villains will be Lockdown, a character who possesses a ship full of decommissioned Transformers including the Dinobots.

Optimus Prime and Bumblebee will reportedly then ride the Dinobots Grimlock and a Pterandon into battle in Hong Kong. Galvatron, and the 'Hound' are also said to make their debut in the film.

Shooting begins next month in Michigan and Chicago, with the production shifting to China in October.

Peter Webber To Helm "The Colour"

Peter Webber ("Emperor," "Girl with a Pearl Earring") is set to direct an adaptation of Rose Tremain's novel "The Colour" at Festival Films and Nukuhau Films.

Tremain will adapt the script which set during the New Zealand gold rush of the 1860s.

The story follows newly married immigrants and the husband's widowed mother. Finding life as a small farmer more difficult than he expected, the man sets out to make his fortune and in the process their lives take a disastrous turn.

The project will be shot on New Zealand’s South Island next year. Ray Marshall and Tim Coddington will produce.

DiCaprio, Lehane Re-Team On "Travis McGee"

Author Dennis Lehane ("Shutter Island") has been hired to pen the script for the sleuth drama "Travis McGee" at 20th Century Fox.

The film will be based on John D. McDonald's "Deep Blue Good-by," one of nearly two dozen mystery books featuring the character of Travis Magee and set around Ft. Lauderdale, Florida.

Leonardo DiCaprio was once attached and things are being worked out to get him back. Peter Chernin and Amy Robinson will produce.

Zac Efron Turns Into A "Narc"

Zac Efron is attached to star in the true-crime story "Narc" for LBI and 20th Century Fox.

Called a "collegiate Donnie Brasco," the story follows a popular college student, lacrosse captain and fraternity president busted by local police for cocaine.

He was then offered a deal - he would not be arrested if he became an undercover informant to help put away big-time criminals.

Grant Myers penned the script while Julie and Rick Yorn will produce.

"Angry Birds," "God of Driving" Score Scribes

Veteran comedy and animation scribe Jon Vitti ("The Simpsons," "The Larry Sanders Show") has been hired to pen the script for the 3D animated feature based on the "Angry Birds" app at Rovio Entertainment and Sony Pictures.

"Star Wars: The Clone Wars" executive producer Catherine Winder has also joined the feature which has scheduled a July 1st 2016 release date.

Meanwhile, Dignity Film Finance has optioned Vanity Fair special correspondent Amy Fine Collins' novel "The God of Driving". Sue Kramer ("Gray Matters") is set to pen the script and direct the comedy which aims to start shooting in Spring 2014.

Leonardo DiCaprio Reunites with Shutter Island Writer Dennis Lehane for Travis McGee

Leonardo DiCaprio is reuniting with Shutter Island author Dennis Lehane for the 20th Century Fox crime drama Travis McGee. Dennis Lehane will write the adapted screenplay, based on the 1964 John D. MacDonald novel The Deep Blue Good-By, with Leonardo DiCaprio playing the title character. Here's an official description of the novel below.
"Travis McGee -- He's a self-described beach bum who won his houseboat in a card game. He's also a knight errant who's wary of credit cards, retirement benefits, political parties, mortgages, and television. He only works when his cash runs out and his rule is simple: he'll help you find whatever was taken from you, as long as he can keep half..."
This project will mark the first time that author/screenwriter Dennis Lehane is adapting another writer's work, although he has written episodes of The Wire, Boardwalk Empire, and Castle. Leonardo DiCaprio starred in Shutter Island, an adaptation of Dennis Lehane's novel. They are currently collaborating on his latest adaptation Live by Night, which Ben Affleck is directing.
Travis McGee has been in development since 2001, and Fox wants to make a potential franchise out of John D. MacDonald's 21 Travis McGee novels. Paul Greengrass, Gary Fleder, and Oliver Stone had previously been attached to direct at various times, although the project currently does not have a director. Leonardo DiCaprio is also producing alongside Peter Chernin and Amy Robinson.
Travis McGee is in development and stars Leonardo DiCaprio.

Included on this DVD set, in the extra features, is something called 'the original pilot'. What is 'the original pilot'?
MC Bat Commander: Between Season 1 and Season 2 of shooting Yo Gabba Gabba!, back in 2007, we thought, "Hey, you know, now that we have a little momentum going with this Yo Gabba thing, lets take some time and actually do this AquaBats pilot the right way." We had shot a pilot for Disney back in 1998, and then we did one for Fox Family Channel in 2001. Then, neither one of them were what we were looking for. So, we had a chance to do it our way in 2007. We shot a twenty-minute pilot. And it includes the live action...It's about fifty percent live action, fifty percent animated. I wouldn't say it's a lot different than the show is now, but it's definitely different. It will be interesting for people to see it. Where the show came from, and what our original idea was. And how it departed off from that.
To continue that train of thought, what does the "...And More" consist of on this DVD set?
MC Bat Commander: The "...And More!" So, what is also there with the original pilot? There is audio commentary stuff, there are bloopers, there are a ton of bloopers...There are a ton more, when we get a chance to do a Season 2 DVD, hopefully...We will be able to mine out a bunch more of that stuff. But there is still a ton of bloopers. There are some behind-the-scenes clips. Some of them are real, a lot of them are mockumentary style adlibbed things that we did on the fly. There are a bunch of interesting tidbits. Mostly it's just the pilot, the bloopers, and behind-the-scenes clips...It's all there, and its pretty fun!
When the series originally debuted on The Hub, we were sent a mask and T-shirt. No lie, my dog kind of stole the mask. My dog wears it. Which I'm sure kids across America would love to do on Saturday mornings too! Is there a reason why the DVD set doesn't come with a mask?
MC Bat Commander: Uh? I don't know why we didn't get those. To do it cost effectively, we would have to get the cheaper masks with the DVDs. We wouldn't want the kids to get cheaped out. But! You can buy the actual masks online. (clickHere). Somewhere...We'll send you some. A kid wouldn't want to wear a cardboard mask while they are watching the show...
No, they want the real thing...
MC Bat Commander: Those ones are kind of bulky. Maybe you remember before the dog tore yours up. They are bulky and hard to ship, so...
The dog didn't tear it up. The dog wears it. I have pictures of the dog wearing it if you don't believe me.
MC Bat Commander: Oh, he wears it! Even better!
Yeah, the dog watches a lot of TV, too, so...I don't know what's up with that dog...
MC Bat Commander: That's really amazing.
He watches your show every Saturday morning. Even the repeats. But, to be honest, he is partial to horror movies. I don't know why.
MC Bat Commander: That's crazy. Does he bark at the screen when scary stuff happens?
I have video of the dog watching Scream 4. She actually covers her eyes when one of the characters gets killed. Then she walks away.
MC Bat Commander: Wow. That's too heavy for her!
REP: We have two villains in Season 2 that might make her do that, too.
MC Bat Commander: Oh, yeah, absolutely!
So, Season 2! That's happening!
MC Bat Commander: Yes, yes!
REP: June 1st, 1 pm EST/10 am PST!
That's exciting news. What can we expect to see in Season 2?
MC Bat Commander: The AquaBats in Season 1, they have saved the earth. At the same time, we get thrown into outer space, our fate is unknown. In Season 2 we come back to earth, and somehow, some way, we don't know how we got out of the time loop, we don't know how we got back to earth, and we are very disoriented. But, we come back, and everyone knows who we are. We've saved the earth, and we're celebrities now, in Season 2. The tone of Season 2 is, now everyone knows who the AquaBats are in their AquaBats world, and they are Celebes, and they are expected to perform as heroes. But the AquaBats are still kind of bumbling idiots. And they don't know what they are doing. That plays into the comedy of the whole season. In a nutshell, that is the tone of the season. Then, specific episodes follow suite, with completely different origin stories from all of the different AquaBats. All the different AquaBats have different versions of the way the AquaBats became a band. That's fun to explore in cartoon flashbacks. There are some crazy guests. Tony Hawk, Mark Mothersbaugh from Devo, Gerard Way and Mikey Way from My Chemical Romance all helped us out on an episode. There is a bunch of crazy things going on in Season 2. I think the scale has gotten a little more epic. There are some crazy homaging bits to action movies and horror movies. Things like that, its fun!
I'm a huge fan of the AquaBats going back more than twenty years, and I was really impressed and amazed that you didn't have to rely on your catalogue of past characters for the show. It's almost entirely all new.
MC Bat Commander: That's true. We did a lot of new stuff. That's because we'd been living with the history of the AquaBats for so long, and that history itself...Its the Aquabats, so its silly and its fun...We thought, why not change it up and make new stuff? In Season 2 I think you'll see a return of some of the earlier...For instances, in one of the origin stories, it stays completely faithful to the origin story of the AquaBats. So the original origin is represented in a cartoon that will show up here, in this new season. You'll have to guess which AquaBat is remembering that as the original storyline. There are some bad guys from the past. Silver Skull comes back as a villain in Season 2. That is one of our old school villains. We are trying to work in more stuff from the past. In the first season, I didn't want it to feel like we had to rely solely on the lore of the AquaBats. We wanted everything to feel really fresh. Now, in Season 2, weaving stuff in from the past has made it feel even fresher. Because people maybe aren't expecting it so much. If that makes sense. That may just be us wrapping our heads around it. I think that makes the difference. If we just started doing a Martian Girl episode, we've been playing Martian Girl for almost 12 years this fall...I think that might feel stale to some of the guys in the band. So we left that out. But now we are gradually weaving the old stuff back in there.
Is a movie in the works?
MC Bat Commander: Oh, man. We thought about that last season. We thought, "We better start trying to get a deal, and do a movie right now!" Because all of us are so old. We're going to have heart attacks someday on the show. But we're working towards that!

First Trailer for ‘Marvel’s Avengers Assemble’ Animated Series

Though summer won’t see the return of Marvel’s Avengers in movie theaters until 2015 when The Avengers 2 arrives, the small screen will see the superheroes assemble in July of this year.

Disney XD will premiere the animated series Marvel’s Avengers Assemble (which is replacing Avengers: Earth’s Mightiest Heroes) on Sunday, July 7th, and a special one-hour preview episode will air on Sunday, May 26th the week before, both airing in the morning at 11am EST.

All of your favorite heroes are featured in the series including Iron Man, Captain America, Thor, Hulk, Hawkeye and Black Widow. And the animated series will get a jump on Captain America: The Winter Soldier by introducing Cap’s sidekick Falcon.

After making his film debut at just 12 years of age in 1990's Lord of the Flies, James Badge Dale returned to the craft with a string of roles in the early 2000s, appearing on 24 as Chase Edmunds, Rescue Me as Timo Gavin, and The Black Donnellys as Samson. He had a breakout year in 2010, starring in the HBO mini-series The Pacific and the brilliant but short-lived AMC show Rubicon, which lead to impressive turns in The Conspirator, Shame, The Grey, and Flight. This versatile actor returns to the big screen once again in Iron Man 3 as the villainous Eric Savin a.k.a. Coldblood, the Extremis-enhanced soldier who does the dirty work for Guy Pearce's Aldrich Killian. I recently had the chance to speak with James Badge Dale about his bad-ass bald look, working for director Shane Black, a lost episode of Rubicon, and much more. Take a look at what he had to say.
I've got to say, the bald look is rather bad-ass for you. Were you ever thinking about possibly keeping that look after seeing yourself as Coldblood?
James Badge Dale: (Laughs) It's summer time now, I've got to resist the urge to shave my head again. I don't want to scare any kids walking down the street.
You have a very diverse filmography. Was a superhero film something you have always wanted to do, and how familiar were you with this universe before signing on?
James Badge Dale: I wasn't very familiar with it. I actually kind of shied away from it, for various different reasons, but if ever I was going to do a superhero movie, this is the movie, and this is the character. I read the script and I said, 'This is the guy. I can play with this guy.'
The character is so cool, and there are so many subtle nuances where you can tell there is a lot going on with this guy. He has all this power, but, to me, I could be wrong, but it seemed like he was kind of annoyed that he was harnessed and was Killian's underling, especially with this power he could wield. Would you say that's a fair assessment?
James Badge Dale: (Laughs) Right. I haven't told anybody this, so you're the only one. In the 90s, Nas had this song ("I Gave You Power") that was from the first-person perspective of being a gun, and that was the theme song for Eric Savin. The idea that he's a killer, but he's not the one who pulls the trigger. He's waiting for someone to tell him to go kill, to tell him to wreck things. That's what I kept in mind with him, that he's an instrument. What he really, really enjoys, more than anything in the world, is when someone points him in the direction, and focuses all his energy.
That's awesome. This cast is just huge, and you interact with quite a lot of them, from Stephanie Szostak to Jon Favreau. The Jon Favreau scenes were great, shooting outside the Chinese Theater. That must have been quite a thrill.
James Badge Dale: Every day was something new. You never knew what was happening. It was always something different, and everyone was so game. You need to get a good night's sleep, and show up, because it works on a very high level. You have to be able to play, because that script is constantly moving and changing. It takes all of you, to be there with them and be able to change things up and play on that level.
With a director like Shane Black coming in, a lot of times Marvel goes with what seem to be perhaps peculiar choices, on paper. I love Shane Black's work, but he's never done a superhero movie before, even though he's written so many amazing action movies. This is only the second movie he directed, so can you talk about his style coming into this, and what you really took away from working with him?
James Badge Dale: What I loved about working with Shane is there's one point towards the beginning of the film, I went up to him and said, 'Shane, am I getting too weird? Are we being too weird?' Shane just looks at me and says, 'You can't get too weird' (Laughs). It was beautiful. There was no leash, no reins, just go for it. He said he'd pull you back if you needed to be pulled back.
You talked about being this instrument, but you have this power from Extremis inside you. I know most of it is done in special effects, but were there things you had to look into, about when you get to harness this power, and how you wanted it to look?
James Badge Dale: Ah, that's a really good question. There were so many effects guys who were showing me what they were thinking they were going to do in post, but the truth is, a lot of it, they said, they're going to base it off what we do. We are the template. It's strange, because we're playing something that doesn't really exist. I didn't really rip out a water tower, but they asked me what I would do if I were tearing it down, so for about a half hour, I sat there playing around with it, as if I were tearing it down. They went in and put the water tower coming down based on those different movements. It's crazy, because you're playing with things that aren't there.
There are so many insane moments in this film. Did you have a moment, when you actually saw this, that blew you away, or something that you weren't really sure how it would come off on film?
James Badge Dale: Well, the whole Air Force One sequence with the skydiving. The whole thing was beautiful. It's always strange, for an actor, to go see a film, after you've done it, because our experience is always different. It's not an actor's medium, it's a director's medium. We're there, very much in these isolated circumstances, and then someone goes in a dark room for six months to a year and edit everything together. This one, was especially different, because not only are they editing it all together, but they're putting all this other stuff in. I was blown away by it. I've never done something where I could be in the theater and listen to people cheering and booing and hissing. It's cool to be a part of something where the audience participates.
Is there anything you have coming up that you can talk about? Are you shooting anything this summer at all?
James Badge Dale: I've got The Lone Ranger coming out later this summer and there's movie coming out later this year called Parkland. It's about the 48 hours between when John F. Kennedy was assassinated and Lee Harvey Oswald was shot. It follows different groups of people, almost in real time. It's written by Peter Landesman, who is a former New York Times journalist, and there are things in this movie that I don't think anybody has ever seen before. There are things in this movie that no one knew about, and it's a brilliant piece of writing. I'm really proud and excited about that film.
Can you say who you actually play in that?
James Badge Dale: There are several different groups of people it follows, and one of those groups is Lee Harvey Oswald's family, his brother and his mother. Jacki Weaver is playing the mother and I'm playing the brother, Robert Oswald. It's one of the best times, creatively, I've ever had. Jacki Weaver is just an amazing woman.
Yeah. I talked to her for Animal Kingdom, and she just blew me away in that.
James Badge Dale: I know! In Animal Kingdom, she's such a frightening character, and she's quite frightening in our film too. She is the sweetest, nicest, most open, fun woman you'll ever meet in your life. I love Jacki.
I was a big fan of Rubicon. Would you be interested in going back to TV, if you found the right material? Or are you primarily focused on movies now?
James Badge Dale: Yeah, of course. It's all about the script and it's all about the story. I got spoiled, a little bit, in television. The Pacific was such a special job. Rubicon was such a special job. I really do have to read something that sparks my interest, in the way that those projects did. Rubicon, it was short-lived but I was very close to that show. There is a lost episode of Rubicon. It was an episode we weren't allowed to shoot that cleared up everything, and it was a really brilliant piece of writing. I think Rubicon fans would love to see it, some day.
Obviously, the word is definitely out about Iron Man 3, but what would you say to the fans who have come out thus far?
James Badge Dale: Yeah, I'd just like to say to everyone who saw Iron Man 3, thanks for supporting independent cinema (Laughs).

After leaving his LAPD narcotics post following a bungled operation that left him wracked with remorse and regret, Sheriff Ray Owens (Schwarzenegger) moved out of Los Angeles and settled into a life fighting what little crime takes place in sleepy border town Sommerton Junction. Kristen Wiig Confirmed for Welcome to Me

Kristen Wiig has been signed to star in the upcoming Welcome to Me produced by Bron Studios and Gary Sanchez Productions, it was announced today. Cargo International has picked up international rights for the film which it is currently selling at Cannes.
Directing is Shira Piven (Fully Loaded), from a screenplay by Eliot Laurence. The dramatic comedy is produced by Aaron L. Gilbert and Marina Grasic with Margot Hand as co-producer on behalf of BRON Studios. For Gary Sanchez Productions, Will Ferrell, Adam McKay and Jessica Elbaum are producers, with Robyn Wholey as executive producer. Kristen Wiig is also a producer. Welcome to Me will begin production in California this summer.
Welcome to Me tells the story of Alice (Wiig) who suffers from dissociative personality disorder and wins the lottery only to decide to spend her money on a cable access talk show about herself. The show reflects her larger-than-life personality and absolute obsession with wanting to be famous, even if it means alienating her friends and family in the process.
BRON Studios recent productions include: Trust Me, written and directed by Clark Gregg, starring Gregg, Amanda Peet, Allison Janney, William H. Macy, Felicity Huffman, and Sam Rockwell and A Single Shot, starring Sam Rockwell, Jeffrey Wright, Jason Isaacs, and William H. Macy.

What the residents of this coastal town do not realize at first, is Eleanor and Clara are 200-year-old vampires who depend on human blood to survive. Take a look at the latest footage in director Neil Jordan's upcoming thriller, debuting in theaters June 28, along with a new poster.

Two mysterious women seek refuge in a run-down coastal resort. Clara meets lonely Noel, who provides shelter in his deserted guesthouse, Byzantium. Schoolgirl Eleanor befriends Frank and tells him their lethal secret. They were born 200 years ago and survive on human blood. As knowledge of their secret spreads, their past catches up on them with deathly consequence.
Byzantium comes to theaters June 28th, 2013 and stars Saoirse Ronan, Barry Cassin, Gemma Arterton, David Heap, Warren Brown, Ruby Snape, Thure Lindhardt, Jenny Kavanagh. The film is directed by Neil Jordan.

Microsoft Unveils Xbox One Details

The much-hyped press event for Microsoft's Xbox brand is over with the first details of the Xbox One announced. A late 2013 release is being targeted, however there is no talk of pricing at this point.

Unlike the PS4 press conference from earlier this year though, there are pictures of the machine itself. See a full gallery here.

The system will use a PC architecture with an 8-core "Jaguar" x86-64 AMD CPU, allegedly making it very easy to develop for. No word on the specifics of the architecture as yet, but the company promises a machine that is "four times quieter".

The GPU is tailored for DirectX 11.1 graphics and 32MB of high bandwidth embedded ESRAM memory. It will support 1080p and 4K along with 7.1 surround sound.

Then there is 8GB of DDR3 memory, a Blu-ray drive, a 500GB HDD, USB 3.0 ports, gigabit Ethernet, three separate 802.11n wireless radios, and HDMI 1.4 passthrough and out.

The new Kinect will be 1080p, have a wider field view and be incredibly more responsive. It will also be essential to the operation of the new box.

The new controller is very similar, though the triggers and D-Pad have undergone tweaking to improve responsiveness.

How does it compare to Sony's PS4 in terms of raw power? More detailed system specs aren't on hand but the rumors were true - both machines are pretty much the same with the PS4 having the slightest advantage (mainly regarding the faster GDDR5 Ram).

With Xbox though, the focus of this presentation was very much about moving the box away from being a games console and into being an entertainment-all-in-one unit.

In fact it wasn't until well into the presentation that games were even mentioned. Before that, much of it was showing off the media and PVR integration, with channel switching all handled through Siri style voice commands.

"Xbox. Watch HBO" will bring up HBO. These commands allow for relatively fast switching between games, movies and TV shows. The Kinect sensor will also be able to identify individual users and their voices.

When not showing off the "Smart TV" style capabilities of the box, the focus was briefly on games. The company revealed that it will release fifteen exclusive games in the first year, with eight of them being new titles/franchises. They also will have day one exclusive DLC for "Call of Duty: Ghosts" in November.

Two games were shown early on - racing game "Forza Motorsport 5" and mystery thriller title "Quantum Break," the latter evoking the great 360 title "Alan Wake".

In an interview with The Verge, Microsoft Xbox Live VP Marc Whitten confirmed that the Xbox One will have no backwards compatibility whatsoever so your Xbox 360 games won't work on the new machine.

While Sony has promised PS3 game playability eventually through cloud streaming, Whitten says there is no such thing in the works at Microsoft. Also, while games will be on Blu-ray, all games will require installation to the Xbox One's hard drive to play.

One big concern has been the machine requiring a constant online connection to run games. Wired reports that developers will be able to create games that hook into Microsoft's Azure cloud services and are unable to be played offline, but there is as yet no requirement for them to do so.

Microsoft has also indicated that each disc would have to be tied to a unique Xbox Live account, and a fee will be charged for any game disc to be tied to a second account after its initial installation. That brings into question the entire second-hand gaming market for Xbox One games, a question which Microsoft hasn't answered properly as yet aside from saying they've designed "Xbox One to enable customers to trade in and resell games."

We may have thought that Halo had already missed its chance at moving from the realm of video game into that of live-action storytelling. But at today’s announcement of Microsoft’s next console, the Xbox One, that all changed.

In addition to the games and cross-media integration detailed, Microsoft took the opportunity to capitalize on the success of the live-action – and completely free – Web series Halo 4: Forward Unto Dawn by announcing a new live-action Halo television series, created in partnership with developer 343 Industries and Steven Spielberg himself.
